NGG Workshop 1: Evolutionary Genomics

The workshop took place on 27-28.10.2016.

The workshop is a part of ILS doctoral program course Next Generation Genomics 2016. See

Target audience: This course is aimed at MSc students with suitable background studies as well as PhD students and post-doctoral researchers who are applying or planning to apply high throughput resequencing technologies and bioinformatics methods in their research.

Course content: Lectures will give insight into how biological knowledge can be generated from population-level resequencing experiments and illustrate different ways of analyzing such data. Practicals will consist of computer exercises that will enable the participants to apply statistical methods to the analysis of resequencing data under the guidance of the lecturers and teaching assistants. Familiarity with the technology and biological use cases of high throughput resequencing is required, as is some experience with Linux command-line work.

The practical work will be performed on personal laptop computers that participants are expected to arrange and bring along to the course. Laptops with all major operating systems (Linux, MacOSX, Windows) are supported. A list of required software is provided before the start of the course.
